Biography

Joya Lee is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor-Candidate in the state of Virginia. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from Oregon State University and her Master of Social Work from Boston University.

Joya has extensive experience working with individuals, families, and groups across a variety of settings, including hospital emergency departments, detoxification units, residential and outpatient substance use treatment programs, homeless shelters, Community Service Boards, Adult Detention Centers, and Drug Court programs. In addition to providing therapy, she has extensive experience in case management, crisis intervention, and connecting clients to resources for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Joya works with children, adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, complex trauma (CPTSD), grief and loss, addiction, family conflict, divorce, chronic illness, insomnia, life transitions, personality disorders, and mood disorders. She also has a special interest in supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use, overdose, and recovery-related challenges.

Joya is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. She values the importance of understanding each client’s unique story and approaches therapy with compassion, curiosity, cultural sensitivity, and genuine care.

Using a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approach, Joya collaborates closely with clients to identify meaningful goals and develop practical strategies for achieving them. She frequently incorporates Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help clients address underlying challenges, build resilience, and create lasting change.
