Children’s Skill-Building Groups

Short-term, therapist-led groups that help children build practical skills for everyday social and emotional challenges.

Royal Care Counseling offers children’s skill-building groups in Fairfax, VA, designed around specific challenges children may face at home, at school, and with their peers. In a supportive group environment, children have opportunities to learn new skills, practice them with others, and build greater confidence in navigating real-life situations.

Our current groups are designed for children ages 8–11 and focus on practical skills that children can continue using long after the group ends.

Focused Support for the Skills Kids Need

Some challenges do not require an ongoing group. A child may need focused support with a particular skill, such as responding to bullying, making friends, communicating with peers, setting boundaries, or building confidence.

Royal Care Counseling’s Children’s Skill-Building Groups are short-term programs centered around specific topics. Each group combines therapist guidance, age-appropriate activities, discussion, and opportunities to practice new skills with peers.

How Our Skill-Building Groups Work

  • Ages: 8–11

  • Format: Four group sessions held over two weekends, Saturday and Sunday

  • Therapist-Led: Groups are facilitated by a Royal Care Counseling therapist in a supportive environment where children can learn and practice skills with their peers.

  • Parent Participation: Parents meet with the therapist at the beginning of the program to discuss goals and again at the conclusion to review progress and ways to reinforce new skills at home.

  • Upcoming Dates: Contact Royal Care Counseling for current group schedules and availability.
